1. Acknowledge my dissatisfaction with the present situation.

Jesus said, "For people can’t come to me unless the Father who sent me draws them to me, . . ." John 6:44 (NLB)

"For all have sinned; all fall short of God’s glorious standard." Romans 3:23 (NLB)

"For the wages of sin is death." Romans 6:23 (NLB)

2. Realize that God wants to offer me help and hope.

"When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners. . . . God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. And since we have been made right in God’s sight by the blood of Christ, he will certainly save us from God’s judgment." Romans 5:6-10 (NLB)

Jesus said, "I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly." John 10:10 (KJV)

3. Repent of my sins.

"Now turn from your sins and turn to God, so you can be cleansed of your sins." Acts 3:19 (NLB)

"metanoia" - to reverse one’s course. To turn in a new direction with the whole heart.
"The Lord isn’t really being slow about his promise to return, as some people think. No, he is being patient for your sake. He does not want anyone to perish, so he is giving more time for everyone to repent." 2 Peter 3:9 (NLB)

4. Receive Jesus Christ as my Savior by faith.

"Have faith in the Lord Jesus and you will be saved! . . ." Acts 16:31 (CEV)

"But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God." John 1:12 (NLB)

"God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift of God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it." Ephesians 2:8-9 (NLB)

"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life." John 3:16 (NLB)
